Holden senior wrestler Logan Yoder collected the 100th win of his high school career on Friday, December 17 with a 14-5 major decision victory over Tipton wrestler Dalton Doss. The milestone win occurred during The Battle at the Katy Trail Tournament in Sedalia, and arrived a little earlier than anticipated for the three-time state qualifier, and two-time state medalist. “It started off with me only having one or two matches, and the bracket ended up getting modified to where I had three matches,” said Yoder in describing the changes made on Friday to the 132-pound weight class bracket at the tournament. “ I’m like, I was at 97 wins. I’ve got to get these three wins which was a little bit stressful because I really wanted to get it that night. Thankfully, I did.” Yoder added to his total of 97 wins at the start of the tournament by recording two wins by pin in his first two matches on Friday. “I wasn’t too worried about my first two matches, but my third one I was a little bit nervous about,” said Yoder, who worked through adversity in his match-up with Doss to secure the signature win. “There were a few times where he had be on my back and I freaked out, but I ended up getting enough reversals and a near-fall on him,” described Yoder. “I was close to pinning him a few times.” After collecting his 100th victory, the four-year Holden wrestling team member would go on to collect four more wins versus one loss in the tournament. The final tournament win for Yoder came in the fifth-place match on Saturday, against Higginsville wrestler Braxton Ernst, and left Yoder sitting at 104 career wins. The milestone victory comes after dedicating extra effort in the off-season to his preparation for his senior campaign, and after moving up from the 120-pound weight class in which he won the sixth-place all-state medal in both of the past two seasons. “I think it worked out really well,” said Yoder of the added emphasis on his offseason work. “I think I’m seeing a lot of improvement this year versus last year.” Holden wrestling head coach John Jones noted the attributes which have led to the senior’s success. “He’s a great leader…one of the best leaders I’ve ever had,” said coach Jones shortly after Yoder won his fifth-place match to leave Sedalia with a memorable tournament showing. “It was a good accomplishment for him to get that 100th win, and it meant a lot to him. “He has sacrificed, and it’s paying off for him.”
