Harold Wayne Schalk

Harold Wayne Schalk, age 82 of Holden, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City surrounded by his wife and two sons.

Harold was born April 19, 1942 in a farmhouse near Olathe, Kansas; son of Joseph Charles Schalk and Pauline May (Redfield) Schalk.

He graduated from Adrian High School in 1960. Harold was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Beverly June Greer, on June 9, 1962. They were married for over sixty-two years bringing two sons into this world.

Harold was employed at General Motor Leeds Assembly Plant for eight years. Later while working for AT&T (Western Electric) in Lee’s Summit the family moved to Greenwood, Missouri and then in 1978 to his favorite place on earth, his hilltop farm near Holden, Missouri. He resided there until his death.

While living on the farm, Harold went back to school for heating and air conditioning which gave him the opportunity to become a St. Mary’s Hospital maintenance engineer in Blue Springs, Missouri. He retired from there in 2004.

Harold took great pleasure in raising cattle on the farm. He loved to tinker as well. Harold knew necessity is the mother of invention which allowed his creative mind to design what was needed at the moment.

Besides being a man who loved to work and create, he also always loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Though Harold was a dedicated worker and persevering provider for his family, he is best defined as a follower of Jesus Christ. He surrendered to his Savior’s Lordship in 1978 never turning back by the grace of God. Harold served his Lord as a deacon in the church body at New Hope Baptist Church for over 40 years. He loved to be in church singing with fellow believers, always reading and learning how to be a better follower of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Chariza Schalk of Odessa, MO, Gregg and Billie Schalk of Garden City, MO; seven grandchildren, Eric, Brittany, Kyle, Jan Kendrick, Caleb, Dietrich, and EliAna; and eight great-grandchildren; Hayden, Aaron, Jaden, Anders, Cooper, Elizabeth, Renea, and Gabriel; and sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Lloyd Quick of Clinton, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Pauline and his brothers Richard and Larry.
