Ricky David Pettit

Ricky David Pettit, age 68, of Holden, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 9:21 p.m., surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Rick was born on Monday, September 9, 1957, in Warrensburg, Missouri, to Larry Pettit and Dixie Durrette People.

He graduated from Holden High School and spent many years working for Pavestone Company as a forklift operator.

Those who knew Rick would describe him as a fun-loving, caring, and hardworking man who always enjoyed spending time outdoors. He had a true passion for fishing and hunting and especially enjoyed fishing competitions with his son, Chris. Whether they were competing to see who could catch the first fish, the biggest fish, or even the smallest fish, those moments created memories that will be cherished forever. Rick was also a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs fan and never wanted to miss a game.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Larry Pettit, and several other loved ones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Laverne Pettit of Holden, Missouri; his mother, Dixie People of Holden, Missouri; one son, Chris Jeffers of Holden, Missouri; three daughters, Rachel Pettit of Kansas City, Missouri, Sharina Jeffers of Holden, Missouri, and Veronica of Colorado; two brothers, Robert Pettit of Texas and John People and his wife, Kathy, of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters, Nancy Henty and her husband, Eric, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Michelle Touchette and her husband, Robert, of St. Louis, Missouri; brother-in-law Mark Williams and his wife, Barbara, of Raytown, Missouri; several grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa”; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rick will be deeply missed by his family and friends and will forever be remembered for his kind heart, hardworking nature, love of the outdoors, and the many memories he created with those he loved.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, Missouri.
