Laura “Juanita” Hutchings
Laura “Juanita” Hutchings, 96 of Holden, Missouri passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Holden Manor Care Center.
Juanita was born January 5, 1927 at Calhoun, Missouri to John Curtis Johnson and Veda Eudora (Bowers) Johnson.
She attended grade school in Oklahoma and moved back to Missouri in the seventh grade. She attended high school in Calhoun, Missouri and graduated in 1945. Juanita attended college in Warrensburg and taught in a country school where she had 29 students, all in the eighth grade.
On January 5, 1947, Juanita married Hubert Ivan Hutchings in Holden. They moved to a farm near Latour where five children were born. She eventually returned to college, to finish her degree in English and library science. In 1971, she became high school librarian at the Holden High School, retiring in 1993 after 21 years.
Juanita was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church near Latour.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jackie in 1955; husband, Hubert in 1982; both parents; three sisters: Joan Hatchett, Sylvia Clutter and Reva Williamson; brother: John Johnson; and son-in-law: Donald Stowell. Survivors include four children: Laura Pinson (Darrell) of Holden, MO; Darrell Hutchings (Carol) of Oak Grove, MO; Susie Stowell of Holden, MO and Melanie Mullally (Steve) of Kansas City, MO; sister: Wanda Brooks of Warrensburg, MO; eight grandchildren: Janet Pinson (Mike) of Holden, MO; Derrick Pinson (Amanda) of Holden, MO; Jessica Stowell Angell (David) of Latour, MO; Daniel Stowell (Shadow) of Holden, MO; Tracey (Hutchings) Newcomer (John) of Oak Grove, MO; Mallory (Mullally) Grauberger (Will) of Holden, MO; Stephen Mullally of Kansas City, MO and Michael Mullally (Tiffany) of Kansas City, MO; and twelve great grandchildren: Jeffrey Fouts, Trace Angell, Levi Pinson, Kyleigh Stowell, Corbin Stowell, Paytin Crittenden, Ava Grace Pinson, Tenley Ann Angell, William Keith Grauberger, Isabell Faith Grauberger, Jackson Everett Newcomer and Wyatt Grauberger.
There was a graveside service, Monday, October 30 at Rose Hill Cemetery, east of Latour with John Phillips, Chaplain at Good Shepherd Hospice officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rose Hill Cemetery Association or Good Shepherd Hospice in care of Williams.
