Joyce E. (Rhoades) Shumate

Joyce E. (Rhoades) Shumate, 78 of Holden, Missouri passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at her home.

Joyce was born November 8, 1947 in Holden, daughter of Everett F. Rhoades and Hallie (Bradshaw) Rhoades. She graduated from Holden High School, Class of 65.

She was a stay at home mom for many years. On August 20, 1993, she was united in marriage to Charles K. “Chuck” Shumate in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The couple lived on a farm near Warrensburg for several years, raising Registered Angus Cattle. She loved her family. Nothing brought her more joy than being “Mema.” Joyce loved her family, the farm, hummingbirds and owls.

Survivors include her son: Darrin Anderson, daughter: Amy Anderson, three grandchildren: Dalton Woods, Ryan Anderson and Taylor Adams; five great grandchildren: Gabby Woods, J.D. Woods, Kennedy Sechrest, Jaxton Woods, Tripp Adams, and another on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck and two brothers.

There will be a private graveside service at Pisgah Cemetery, located north of Chilhowee. Memorial contributions may be left to Johnson County Cancer Foundation in care of Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
