Eleanor Rose Lloyd

September 6, 1933 – November 7, 2025
Eleanor Rose Lloyd, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 6, 1933, in Hermann, Missouri, Eleanor lived a life rooted in faith, family, and unwavering devotion.
Eleanor’s early years were marked by a deep spiritual calling. After graduating from a Catholic high school, she joined a convent, where she served as Sister Joan of Arc until the age of 22. Though she eventually left the convent, her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life.
On May 4, 1957, Eleanor married the love of her life, Vern Lloyd. Together, they built not only a family but a legacy. The couple welcomed two sons, Doug (1958) and Alan (1959), and settled in Holden, Missouri, after a brief time in Washington, MO. Eleanor and Vern worked side by side to build and operate a successful grocery business that thrived for over 50 years. Their store, Lloyd’s Thriftway, became a cornerstone of the Holden community. It was more than just a place to shop, it was a gathering spot where neighbors connected, and generations were served with care and kindness. Eleanor was the heart of the operation for many years as a bookkeeper, baker, and stocker, while also raising their boys to understand the value of hard work and community.
In the late 1980s, Eleanor and Vern found joy and serenity at their lake house on the Lake of the Ozarks. It became a cherished gathering place for family and friends, filled with laughter, gardening, fishing, trolling, and home-cooked meals. Eleanor’s love for hosting and her warm hospitality left lasting memories for all who visited.
After Vern’s passing in 2010, Eleanor remained devoted to her family, spending treasured time with her sons and grandchildren. She found joy in the simple pleasures—watching Kansas City Royals games, latch hooking, sewing, and playing cards late into the night. She had a sweet tooth for s’mores and pie, and a heart full of love and resilience.
Eleanor’s life was a testament to dedication, grace, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her loving husband; Vern Lloyd; her parents, Clarence and Louise Baumstark; one son, Alan Lloyd; brother Joe Baumstark; three sisters Clarine (Jerry) Means, MaryAnn (Paul) Struttmann and Charmaine (Alfred) Klott.
Surviving her passing are one son, Doug Lloyd; grandchildren, Mindy (Nathan) Hartness, Chasi Graves, Stephanie (Shawn) Callahan, Jeff (Kara) Lloyd, Jill (Steven) Miranda, Lyndsi (Brad) Rayl, and Max Lloyd; nineteen great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren with one on the way.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church 703 S. Olive St. in Holden, Missouri, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Father Dave Means officiating.
Interment will take place at Holden Cemetery.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
