Joyce Kay Bedford

Joyce Kay Bedford, 84, of Holden, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 13, 2025.

She was born on Wednesday, May 28, 1941, in Sedalia, Missouri, to the late Albert and Ruby Cole. Joyce was a graduate of Corder High School.

Joyce proudly served as the Holden Elementary School Secretary for more than 15 years. After retiring from the school, she went to work at the Holden Library for many years. She enjoyed working with her close friends and serving the patrons of the Holden Library.

Joyce was married to the late Lloyd Bedford, Jr., and to this union four children were born: James Russell, Lisa Kay, Jonathan Daniel, and Jennifer Kay.

Joyce made Holden her home by surrounding herself with family and good friends.

She enjoyed crafting, quilting, reading, and cooking/baking for her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and loved road trips to nowhere. She would often say “Let’s see where this road takes us!”

Joyce was blessed to have six grandchildren; and graced with two great-grandchildren.

Surviving her passing are her children, James Russell (Michele) Bedford Warrensburg, MO; Jennifer Kay (Ron Watson) Bedford Holden, MO; grandchildren, Dilon Bennett, Jesse Bennett, Rachael (Justin Rogers) Bedford, Dylan (Sarah Melvin) Wilson, Austin (Alli) Bedford, Mandy (Garrett) Wilson; great-grandchildren, JJ and Josie Kay (her namesake) Rogers; her brother, Gene Cole, and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Lisa and Jon; her sister, Faye Manning; and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Cole.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Covenant Church of Holden (298 SW 131 Hwy., Holden, MO).

A Memorial Service for Joyce will follow at 6:30 p.m. with Pastor Michael Wakeman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, in care of: Jennifer Bedford, 400 S. Lexington St., Holden, MO 64040.
