The Eagle boys wrestling team recorded a conference team dual meet win over Lexington by the final score of 44-36 during Holden’s Matwarming celebration on Thursday, Jan. 30.
“We wrestled tough, and had people win where we needed points,” said Holden boys wrestling coach Matt Hertzog. “We knew we would have to bump around to win.”
Eagle senior wrestler Trent Stout was crowned Matwarming King on the night prior to securing a win on the mat during the dual. Eagle freshman wrestler Liam Claxton was crowned as Matwarming Prince.
After Lexington opened the dual meet with three wins by forfeit and a win by pin over Holden wrestler Payton Tye in the 126-pound match, Eagle senior wrestler Graysen Thieman put Holden on the scoreboard by taking a win by technical fall against Luca Clapper in the 132-pound match.
Eagle wrestlers Bobby Bowlin at 138 pounds, Kaleb Catron at 144 pounds, and Noah Greissl at 150 pounds followed Thieman’s win with wins by forfeit.
Claxton suffered a loss by pin in the 157-pound bout before Stout worked to a win by major decision over Noah Ellison in the 165-pound match.
Eagle senior Conner Carver notched a win by technical fall over Jesse Dunkle in the 175-pound match to secure five team points.
A loss by Vince Vance for Holden in the 190-pound match was followed by a win in the 215-pound bout with Hudson Gregg pinning Minuteman wrestler Mason Bergsieker.
“Hudson has been wrestling well these past few weeks so we figured it would be good to put the win on his shoulders, and he came through,” said coach Hertzog. “Very pleased with his performance.”
Eagle senior wrestler Aiden Christian capped off the team win by securing the 100th win of his high school wrestling career in a win by pin against Minuteman opponent Johnathan Groves.
“Obviously, Aiden ending the night on his 100th win was a wonderful way to end the evening,” said coach Hertzog.
