Holden Baseball Postseason Honors Include Three All-State Nods And Top Class 3 Team Academic Recognition
Postseason awards for players of the Holden Eagles baseball team have been released by Holden baseball head coach Jeff Smith.
Eagle senior players Wes Brown, Cohen Drake, and Tucker Kauffman headline the list of Holden players on the postseason awards list with those three picking up Class 3 All-State Team honors to cap off all-conference and all-district recognition for that trio.
In total, five Eagle players have been named to the Missouri River Valley East Team, and four players have been named to the Class 3, District 14 Team.
In addition to the on field awards, 10 players have been named as Academic All-MRVC-East performers, and nine players have been recognized as Academic All-State performers for their work in the classroom.
The Holden Eagles baseball team led all Class 3 teams on the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Academic All-State list for its cumulative team GPA.
All-MRVC-East
Eagle senior baseball players Wes Brown, Cohen Drake, and Tucker Kauffman have been named as First Team All-MRVC-East players.
Eagle senior Drake Gard has been named to the Second Team All-MRVC-East.
Eagle senior Skyler Willis has been named as an Honorable Mention All-MRVC-East player.
Eagle baseball players named as Academic All-MRVC-East performers include seniors Skyler Willis, Trent Eissler, Drake Gard, Cohen Drake, Izaak Williams, Justin Brown, Wes Brown, Owen Doogs, and Brody Graves; and junior Carson Kephart.
All-District
Eagle baseball players named to the Class 3, District 14 All-District Team include seniors Wes Brown, Cohen Drake, and Tucker Kauffman, and junior Destry Powell.
All-State Team
The Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association has placed three Holden Eagles baseball players – Wes Brown, Cohen Drake, and Tucker Kauffman – on the Class 3 All-State Team.
Eagle senior Wes Brown has been named to the MHSBCA Class 3 First Team as a pitcher.
This season, Brown posted a record of 7-1 on the hill. In 53 1/3 innings pitched by Brown on the season, he recorded 96 strikeouts and posted an ERA of 1.838. At the plate, Brown recorded a batting average of .354 in 103 plate appearances through 25 games played. He totaled 29 hits with 17 singles, six doubles, two triples, and four home runs while drawing 21 walks. Brown recorded 18 RBIs and scored 27 runs. In the field playing primarily left field and pitcher, Brown totaled a fielding percentage of .943 with 35 total chances.
Eagle senior Cohen Drake has been named as a MHSBCA Class 3 Honorable Mention selection as a Designated Hitter/Utility Player after playing shortstop, second base, pitcher, and designated hitter for the Eagles during the season.
Drake played in a total of 25 games for the Eagles baseball team this season. On the mound, Drake finished the season with a record of 1-0 with 14 innings pitched. He totaled 25 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.818. In 98 plate appearances, Drake recorded a batting average of .432 to lead all Eagles players with five or more plate appearances.
