The Holden girls basketball team finished in third place in the Midway Girls Basketball team by defeating Ewing Marion Kauffman Charter by the final score of 62-25 in the third-place game on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The Lady Eagles led throughout the contest as guard Addy Campbell and center Jaci Gower combined for 50 points in the game. Six total Lady Eagle players contributed points, and nine total players played in the game.
“The biggest highlight for me was the solid team win,” said Holden girls basketball coach Todd Shanks. “Everyone had a role in this win. Addy and Jaci are very good basketball players. They leave it out on the court every night. Those two can’t have the performance without some dedication from their teammates. Overall, great team win.”
The Lady Eagles opened the game on an 11-0 run before the Lady Blue Knights found the scoreboard on a two-point field goal in the finals seconds of the opening period.
Holden extended its lead to a 35-14 halftime advantage that was found on 12 points from Campbell, five points from Gower, a field goal from Lilly Carver, and two free throws from Jillyan McHenry in the second quarter.
The scoring advantage for Holden continued in the third quarter with Campbell and Gower each contributing eight points, and Bella Haggard converting a two-point field goal as the Lady Eagles built to a 53-23 advantage heading into the final frame.

“Archie is a very talented team,” said coach Shanks. “We came in with a game plan that had some success. We had a little trouble on the offensive end in this game. Experience got us in this one.”

“I told the girls before the game it is hard to beat a team twice,” said coach Shanks in reference to a win over Sherwood recorded by the Lady Eagles early in the season. “Addy and Jaci did a great job with the offensive leadership we needed. The team overall did a quality job on the defensive end.”

All-Tournament Team
Lady Eagle junior guard Addy Campbell was named to the Midway Girls Basketball All-Tournament Team for her play in Holden’s three tournament games.
“Addy is relentless,” said coach Shanks. “She will be 100% for 100% of the time. Her motor is unlike any player I’ve coached. She averaged 18.9 ppg, 6 steals per game, 6 rebounds per game, and shot 80% from the foul line. Very special performance from point guard one.”
