Ruth Ann Richey

Ruth Ann Richey, aged 82, passed away on November 2, 2024, in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Ruth was born on November 14, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee and grew up in Topeka, Kansas.

Ruth graduated from Topeka High School before advancing her education at Washburn University and later in life at Central Missouri State University.

She dedicated many years of her career to Stahl Specialty Company in Kingsville, MO, where she worked from 1977 until her retirement in 2003.

Ruth was married to Larry McDaniel from 1959-1987 and to Tiny Richey from 1994 until his death in 2018. Ruth was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holden, MO.

Known for her love of reading, antiquing, Friday nights at the Cowboy Inn, and horse-riding trips with the Happy Hill Gang, Ruth also devoted much of her time to volunteering- such as Harvesters, Hope Coalition Board, and the Warrensburg Hospital gift shop, contributing significantly to her community.

Her personal life was rich with relationships including her daughters, Barbara Blauw (Johnny) of Leawood KS, and Suzanne Erdbacher (Scott) of Salinas CA; her son, James McDaniel (Glenda) of Holden MO; her sister, Beverly Blaser of Topeka KS, sister-in-law Cindy Barney of Topeka KS, and brother-in-law Doug Mauck of Prescott AZ. Ruth was also a cherished grandmother to Hannah Korajkic (Mirza), Joshua McCormick, Jesse Blauw, Faith McDaniel, and Macie McDaniel, and a great-grandmother to Henry Korajkic.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Marion Barney and Dorothy Ruth Dain; her husband, Maurice “Tiny” Richey; her sisters, Janet Mauck, Mary Greenway, Christine Clement; her brother, Henry Barney and infant grandson, Benjamin McDaniel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Holden MO or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at www.theaftd.org, honoring Ruth’s spirit of giving and support for her community.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, 407 S. Pine, Holden, MO 64040.

The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. There will be a gathering afterward for family and friends at the First Presbyterian Church, 501 S. Main, Holden, MO 64040.

Ruth spent the last 16 months of her life at Silverado Memory Care Center in Lee’s Summit, MO, suffering from Frontotemporal Dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia. The family would like to thank the staff at Silverado and Ascend Hospice for their loving care of our mother as she transitioned from this life to the next.
