David Allen Cartmill
David Allen Cartmill, 67 of Holden, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lees Summit, Missouri.
He was born on February 14, 1957, in Lewes, Delaware, to the late Russell and Wanita (Shorthose) Cartmill.
David graduated from Kingsville, MO High School in 1977.
David was a jack of all trades. During his career he was self-employed as a construction worker, concrete and bobcat worker. He also worked for Stahl’s, AT&T, Ameristar, as a maintenance worker for UCM and Bothwell Hospital.
Shortly after high school, David married his high school sweetheart Pamela (Thurman) Merriott, on February 10, 1978. On August 24, 1981, their daughter Melissa Dawn Cartmill was born. Years later they divorced but remained good friends.
David moved to Warsaw years after he was unable to work due to a back injury. He then started to do what he loved to do in his spare time. He would go out on his boat and spend most days on the lake. He loved to take his friends and family on his boating trips.
David loved to sing and play his guitar with his uncles, and family. He became a surprisingly good musician as they taught him.
David had a heart of gold. He would do anything for you, even if you did not ask. David was our big teddy bear.
David loved to spend time with his family, especially with his nieces and nephews, or any children around, because that meant he could act like a child while he played a game, GI Joe, or dolls with them, it did not matter. He was a kid at heart.
David will be missed by all of those who knew him and those who loved to hear his stories. You never knew what he was going to say, but he loved to say, “don’t you remember that.”
He loved to talk and argue with anyone that wanted to talk about politics. He was an animal lover. He loved to share animal clips, among other funny clips, along with Jesus from Facebook. For those who received them late at night, we will miss them, cherish them, but can look back at them as days go by.
Surviving his passing are his daughter, Melissa Cartmill of Sedalia, MO; brothers, Ronald (Cheryl) Cartmill of Kingsville, MO; Russell Thompson of Harrisonville, MO, sisters, Terry (Mike) Fisher of Kingsville, MO; Tina (John) Hood of Holden, MO. Grandchildren, Cloey, Dalton, Skylar and Elijah. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Russell Cartmill and Wanita Cartmill, brother Eugene Thompson, Maternal grandparents, George and Elizabeth Shorthose, Paternal grandmother, Beatrice Higgins, nephew, Marcus Jensen and his dog TC.
The family received friends Tuesday morning, November 12, 2024, at Covenant Church of Holden, 298 SW 131 Hwy, Holden, Missouri.
A funeral service followed, with Pastor Michael Wakeman officiating.
Pallbearers were Rob Burch, Ed Smith, Joe Freed, Jimmy Freed, Scott Rutherford, Chad Gard, Justin Mowell, Zach Black and Marcus Bergeron.
Honorary Pallbearer was Rob Chapman.
Interment was at the Holden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
