Lady Eagles Split Volleyball Matches Last Week

The Holden volleyball team followed a conference road loss at Higginsville last Tuesday, Sept. 26 with a home win over Richmond on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles fell to Higginsville by the final score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-12).
Holden rebounded by defeating Richmond on by the final score of 3-0 on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles worked to a 25-12 win in the first set.
Senior Alex West provided back-to-back aces in the first set as Holden moved to an early 12-5 lead. An ace by Jaci Gower during a three-point run helped Holden go up 16-7. Two aces by Emalee Haggard for the Lady Eagles during a late five-point run were followed by a point by Richmond before Holden closed out the first set on a three-point stretch.
The Lady Eagles held off the Lady Spartans in the second set by the final score of 25-19 before demolishing Richmond in the third set by the final score of 25-4. Aces by Brionna Johnson and Gower during a six-point run for Holden helped the Lady Eagles gain an early 12-2 lead. West provided an ace during a four-point run for Holden before Richmond found its final point of the final set. Holden close out the set and the match on a nine-point run.
After last week’s win over Richmond, the Holden volleyball team held an overall record of 10-6, and stood at 3-2 in MRVC-East play.
This Holden volleyball plays at Knob Noster this Thursday, Oct. 5. The JV match starts at 5 p.m. and is followed by the varsity match.
This Saturday, Oct. 7, the Holden volleyball team plays in the Sherwood Tournament. The tournament begins at 9 a.m.
