The Lady Eagles softball team moved to 8-0 in conference play by defeating both Lexington and Higginsville in road games last week to record season sweeps of both teams in the home-away MRVC-East series.
Holden defeated the Minutemen (3-13) by the final score of 11-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
In their first meeting this season, the Lady Eagles defeated the Minutewomen by the final score of 16-1 on Sept. 7.
This time around, the Lady Eagles plated three runs in the first inning, four runs in the second, two in the third, one run in the fourth, and a run in the fifth as Lexington found a lone run in the bottom of the first inning.
Holden starting pitcher Abby Sisk recorded the win on the mound.
“Abby pitched a great game and held them to a single run,” said Holden softball head coach Jeff Smith. “Lilee Keller had four hits, and Abby also came up big with her bat. She had two hits and two RBIs. Other than that, it was a pretty routine conference win for us. We have done a good job handling the teams that we know we should beat and not playing down to our competition.”
Also collecting two hits and two RBIs were Addilyn Wooster and Haley Brooks. Adalyn Campbell, Faith Brown, and Lilli Bay each had one hit and one RBI. Macey Greene recorded one hit.
Two nights after the win over Lexington, the Lady Eagles defeated Higginsville (3-15) by the final score of 10-0 to back up a home win for Holden by the score of 12-2 back on Sept. 12.
Holden pitcher Olivia Wooster recorded the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles.
“Olivia pitched this one and had a great game, only giving up four hits and striking out five,” said coach Smith. “She has primarily been our JV pitcher, but I wanted to give some others rest this week. This game says a lot about our pitching staff. This was Olivia’s third game starting as the varsity pitcher and she threw a four-hit shutout.
“We are deep at the pitcher’s spot, and hopefully, that can be to our advantage in the district tournament.”
Abby Sisk led Holden at the plate.
“Abby also had some big hits in this game with two hits and three RBIs,” highlighted coach Smith. “Haley Brooks had two hits with two RBIs.”
Addilyn Wooster had one hit and two RBIs. Lilee Keller and Olivia Wooster each had one hit and one RBI. Adalyn Campbell and Macey Greene each chipped in one hit apiece.
At the end of last week, the Holden softball team held an overall record of 19-6 and stood at 8-0 in MRVC-East play with games against Richmond and Carrollton remaining on the conference schedule.
The Holden softball team is set to host Richmond on Tuesday of this week for Holden’s Senior Night game. The varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and is followed by the JV game.
The Holden softball team closes out both its regular season and the conference season with a road game at Carrollton this Thursday, Oct. 5. The varsity game at Carrollton begins at 5 p.m. and is followed by a JV game.
