Evelyn “Sue” Heiman
Evelyn “Sue” Heiman, age 83, of Holden, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Monday, August 7, 2023.
She was born February 27, 1940 in Appleton City, MO to Robert and Edna (Gregg) Wix. She graduated from Appleton City High School in 1958.
She started her career in Kansas City, MO employed by Hallmark Cards where she worked until she met the love of her life. She married Jerome Heiman on November 14, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Church in Montrose, MO.
Sue and Jerome lived in Montrose where they owned Heiman Grain until they relocated to Holden in 1975 to continue the family business. It was often said Jerome didn’t take on anything Sue couldn’t handle. Sue worked side by side with Jerome and her children until she retired in 2017.
Sue & Jerome loved lake life! They loaded up the station wagon with all 5 kids without fail every summer weekend. Sue would be found in the water for hours teaching the kids & their friends how to water ski.
Sue loved the sunshine and the flowers it brought. Being outside in God’s creation brought her great joy. She spent many years creating beautiful gardens on the family farm and continued this by surrounding herself with the most beautiful flowers on her patio while at John Knox Village. Sue left a lifelong legacy through her community service in the Montrose Community Betterment Club, 4H, Scouts, and the Altar Society where she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Sue was selfless in her love for family. She instilled in them her strong faith and Christian values. One of her many gifts was being a great listener, which led to lifelong friendships. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
She was a loving, dedicated mother to Diane Klossen (Mark) of Holden, MO. David Heiman (Lisa) of Lone Jack, MO. Denise Vedder (Bob) of Leawood, KS. Deb Bilyeu (Brian) of Olathe, KS and Dan Heiman (Jennifer) of Leawood, KS. Sue loved her 14 grandchildren. Nicholas Heiman (April) of Lone Jack, MO, Aaron Klossen (Allegra) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Nathan Heiman (Kaley) of Kingsville, MO, Emilee Rehling (Jon) of Olathe, KS, Scott Klossen (Tosha) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Alyssa July (Matt) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Dane Vedder of Kansas City, KS, Laura Vedder of San Diego, CA, Grace Heiman of Leawood, KS, Ross Vedder of Leawood, KS, Claire Heiman of Prairie Village, KS, Lillian Heiman of Leawood, KS, Benjamin Heiman of Leawood, KS, Joseph Heiman of Leawood, KS. Sue was blessed with 14 great grandchildren and one more blessing due in November.
Sue was preceded in death by Jerome, her parents Robert & Edna Wix, and her two sisters Doris Kassner and Sharon Brown. Sue is survived by sisters, Shirley Bell of Gladstone, MO and Donna Kuhn (Harold) of Lee’s Summit, MO.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 18th from 8:30 am – 10:30 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holden. Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Holden.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
