The Holden boys cross country team placed third among five teams at the MRVC-East Cross Country Meet held at Richmond High School on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The Eagles were led by senior Zach Willis who repeated as MRVC-East Champion in a first-place finish.

Willis clocked a time of 17:13 in the defense of his conference crown to pace the field of 33 finishers on the East side of the conference.

Sophomore Rett Hankins timed out at 19:17 to place ninth to earn a top-10 medal on the day, and to repeat as an all-conference runner. “Overall, I thought we ran pretty well,” said Holden cross country head coach Dale Wescott. “Zach was pretty impressive with his win there. Rett got all-conference, and had a good race.”

The Eagle boys team totaled 69 team points to finish behind Lexington in second place with 55 points, and Knob Noster in first place with 31 points.

The Knob Noster team finished with four top-10 all-conference runners as Lexington put two finishers in the top-10, and five more in the top-20 to find an edge. “We anticipated Knob Noster would win it,” said coach Wescott. “We just didn’t have enough to get Lexington.” For Holden, sophomore Caleb Koehn ran as the team’s number-three runner with a 14th-place finish in a time of 19:53.

Eagle sophomore Ethan Rice placed 21st in a time of 20:59.

Jackson Treece and Ruben Wiesmann cracked the top-30 with Treece in 24th, and Wiesmann in 27th.

Treece timed out at 21:28; Wiesmann clocked a time of 22:07.

Junior Lukas Hunt placed 32nd in a time of 24:12 to round out Holden’s showing at the conference meet.
