Holden Track and Field Teams Celebrate Senior Night

 

The Holden Eagles and Lady Eagles high school track and field teams celebrated Senior Night during the Holden Invitational Meet at Holden High School Friday, Apr. 10.
During the meet, Holden track and field senior team members Addy Campbell, Abby Miller, Addi Wooster, Liv Wooster, Malea Brewington, Evie Baldwin, Clara Ferguson, Miranda Matias, Owen Doogs, Matthew Hull, Tayvon Redmon, Sean Anstine, and Antonio Alperi were recognized.

“The seniors are a very talented group and most are four-year lettermen,” said Holden track and field coach David Diener. “They have been staples in the lineups and will be missed here in the future. It’s been fun to see the group grow from lots of athletes finding themselves in one or two events and now as seniors are talented enough to be in three and four events, and scoring big points for our teams. So proud of how their work in season and in the off-seasons is paying off for them now.”

Lady Eagles Results
The Lady Eagles team placed fifth overall out of 17 teams.

“This meet has been one of our toughest meets of the year,” said coach Diener. “So for us to have so many top finishes and season best times or marks was very encouraging to see.”
Lady Eagle senior Addy Campbell turned in a top performance by placing first in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.05. Campbell added a top-three finish by placing third in the 800m run with a time of 2:26. Campbell closed out the meet by running on the Lady Eagle 4x400m relay team to score team points.

“Campbell had a great 400 run and her best 800 this year as she starts to get into form here mid-season,” said coach Diener.

Lady Eagle senior Addi Wooster took the runner-up spot in pole vault with a second-place height of 3.2m.

“Addi Wooster had another big jump in pole vault and keeps being a big part of relays,” said coach Diener. “She has had great competition, and that’s going to help in the late season meets.”

Wooster joined teammates Arionna Johnson, Brionna Johnson, and Callie Irr on the Holden girls 4x100m relay for a fourth-place finish in a time of 54.50 seconds.

Wooster, Campbell, Irr, and Peyton Koehn carried the baton on the Lady Eagle 4x400m relay team for a fifth-place finish to score team points. The relay team timed out at 4:31.

Lady Eagle senior Abby Miller helped score team points as a member of the Holden girls 4x200m relay as she, Irr, Koehn, and Arionna Johnson took sixth-place in the race with a time of 1:59.

Miller also competed in the 100m dash in a 17th-place finish, and the 200m dash for a 12th-place finish.

“Abby’s story is a big show of perseverance,” said coach Diener. “Her determination is outstanding and she is able to have a great senior year because of it. She keeps stepping up for us in big relay moments and scores individual points as well.”

Lady Eagle senior Malea Brewington carried the baton with teammates Audrey Enneking, Madi Talley, and Jessy Stringer in the 4x800m relay for an eighth-place team points finish.
Brewington also competed in the 1600m run to place 10th, and the 3200m run to place 13th.

“Malea has had a great distance career,” said coach Diener. “What’s so encouraging this season is she keeps improving each meet, and she does a great job pushing her pace each meet so her best times are still to come this season.”

Lady Eagle throwers Liv Wooster, Clara Ferguson, and Evie Baldwin were limited at the meet with the cancellation of javelin and discus due to field conditions. Liv Wooster competed in triple jump for an 11th-place finish and ran in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles races. Ferguson placed 23rd in shot put among a field of 35 throwers.

Lady Eagle foreign exchange student Miranda Matias placed 36th in the 100m dash.

In points finishes for underclassmen, junior Brionna Johnson earned a title finish in the shot put with a first-place personal record distance of 12.16m, and placed eighth in long jump. Junior Arionna Johnson placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.77 seconds, junior Macie McDaniel placed third in pole vault with a height of 2.6m, sophomore Jessy Stringer placed seventh in the 1600m run, and freshman Peyton Koehn placed sixth in high jump

The Eagles team placed third overall out of 18 teams.

Eagle senior Owen Doogs took top-eight finishes in two individual events and ran on two top-eight relay teams.

“Owen is a great talent,” said coach Diener. “For his second year of high school track he has become one of our main point getters, and he has a great shot of making a state run in a lot of events. So grateful he decided to give track another shot later in his career.”

Doogs placed third in long jump with a distance of 5.88m, and placed sixth in triple jump with a mark of 11.30m.

Doogs, Brody Bockover, Lane Kendrick, and Evan Killion toted the baton on the Holden boys 4x200m relay team for a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:37.

Doogs, Kendrick, Killion, and Seth Goodwin carried the baton on the Holden boys 4x100m relay team for a fifth-place finish in a time of 46.19 seconds.

Eagle senior thrower Matthew Hull placed 20th in shot put with senior Tayvon Redmon placing 40th in the field of 44 throwers. Senior Sean Anstine placed 17th in triple jump and 27th in long jump. Senior foreign exchange student Antonio Alperi placed 20th in the 800m run.

In points finishes for Eagle underclassmen, junior Dwight Meads placed second in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.83 seconds, fourth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 17.54 seconds, and seventh in high jump with a height of 1.65m.

Junior Evan Killion placed second in high jump with a height of 1.8m.

Junior Neil Tebbenkamp placed third in pole vault with a height of 3.5m.

Sophomore Liam Claxton placed fifth in the 1600m run, and took eighth in the 3200m run.

Sophomore Paxton Zeikle placed seventh in the 400m dash.

The Holden boys 4x800m relay team of Zeikle, Claxton, junior Evan Robinson, and freshman Porter Eissler placed fourth in a time of 9:29.

The Holden track and field teams compete in a meet at Lexington High School this Thursday, Apr. 16, and in a meet at Knob Noster High School this Friday, Apr. 17.
