Mendy Kay Hammons

Mendy Kay Hammons, age of 69 of Holden, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday August 27, 2025, at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Mendy was born on Sunday, January 1, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Jerome “Jerry” Rapp and Frances (McKinney) Rapp.
She was a graduate of Blue Springs High School class of 1974. In 1980 Mendy moved from Blue Springs to Grain Valley. Taking care of her children was her top priority. Mendy was a hard worker, and she would work two or three jobs to make sure everyone was taken care of.
In 1996 she met Brad Hammons, and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1996. They chose Lone Jack as their home to blend their families together with six children.
In 2014 Mendy and Brad moved to the historical district of Lexington, Missouri. They loved collecting antiques and were overjoyed living in a historic district where their antiques could be displayed in their home. They lived there until 2022 when they moved to Holden, Missouri to be closer to Mendy’s parents Jerry and Frances Rapp.
Family was very important to her. She cherished spending time with her parents and loved her time with her children and grandchildren. Her dog Jake was very important too and a huge part of their family.
Mendy loved gardening and taking care of her flower beds. Her hobbies included: collecting antiques, crafting, cooking and baking.
Mendy had a way of being able to make friends with everyone. She was a very social person and loved visiting and having conversations with people. She was involved in several different groups, Bible Study, Garden Club, Women’s Club in Lexington to name a few.
She volunteered and participated in local government zoning boards and other boards as well.
Mendy’s beautiful smile and her loving spirit will be missed by those who loved and knew her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jerome “Jerry” Rapp, brothers, Lawrence Rapp and Christopher Rapp.
She is survived by her husband, Brad Hammons; mother, Frances Rapp; sons, Josh (Dee) Ervin, Dustin (Shelby) Hammons; daughters, Cristena Morgan, Lora (Jeremy) Hibdon, Katherean (Scott) Henrich, Amy (Kyle) Knight; brother, Joseph (Debbie) Rapp; sisters, Cheryl Crowson (Mark Viergutz), Elizabeth Mangiaracina; and fourteen grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Church of Holden, 298 SW MO-131, Holden, Missouri, with Michael Wakeman officiating.
Burial followed in the Lone Jack Cemetery. Pallbearers were : Alixandria Ervin, Jacobey Ervin, Jonah Ervin, Cheyene Hibdon, Marissa Hibdon, Connor Morgan, Matthew Morgan, and Drea Sullivan.
