Darlene Davis

Darlene Davis, 81, of Independence, Mo., passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2025.

She was born and raised in Holden, Mo.

Darlene was born on August 1, 1943, the oldest daughter of Cecil and Maurita Woods.

She was in the class of 1961 at Holden High School.  She graduated from the Kansas City Missouri Board of Education program of Practical Nursing in Kansas City in 1982.
She went on to enjoy a career in nursing for nearly 30 years, working in family practices, emergency rooms, and intensive care units.

After her retirement from nursing, she began a new career as a consultant to hospitals around the United States and Canada, changing from paper to electronic medical records.
She loved her family immensely.  She enjoyed sports of all kinds but especially the Chiefs and Mizzou Tigers.  She was always full of life and enjoyed taking care of others.

Darlene is survived by one son, John (Susan) Rhoades, and three daughters, Judy Johnson, Rhonda Loving, and Sandra (Justin) Rainey; six grandchildren, Michael, Timothy, and Christopher Johnson, Austin Loving, and Megan and Jacob Rainey.

She is also survived by her sister, Judy Swearingen, nieces and nephews, Cindy (Bill) Carboneau, Marilyn and Bill Hurt, and Sarah (Russ) Cavanah, as well as many cousins.
Darlene made friends wherever she went and leaves behind a plethora of them, including special friends Michael Hallisey, Paula Cornelius, and Lou Rader.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Sid Hurt and sister-in-law Marilyn Hurt, brother-in-law Jesse Swearingen, and niece Dawn Hurt.

Services will be Friday, June 27 at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home.  Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Holden Cemetery.
The family will meet at the Cowboy Inn after the burial for a short time if you would like to stop by and visit.
