Sectional qualifiers from the Holden boys and girls track and field teams who earned all-district finishes the week before competed at the Class 3, Sectional 4 Meet held at Archie High School Saturday, May 17.
Competing among the combined top-eight finishers from Class 3 Districts 7 and 8, Holden athletes turned in three sectional title finishes as a total of five Lady Eagle athletes in a total of eight events, and three Eagle boys athletes in a total of four events recorded top-four sectional finishes to advance to the Class 3 State Championships in a total of 12 events.
“I really felt like the competition here for a lot of our kids was going to be the toughest, and if they can make it through here, then they have a real good chance to be successful at state,” said Holden track and field coach David Diener. “State’s not going to get any easier, but it’s definitely not going to get any harder for them. The competition here was great. We had a lot of really close finishes, a lot of groups and people run their best times, hit really good marks and didn’t quite make it, but also a lot of them that did. It was exciting to see.”
