Dorothy Margarette Doutt

Dorothy Margarette Doutt, 97 of Holden, Missouri passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at The Bluffs Nursing facility in Columbia, Missouri. Born Friday, April 08,1927 in Viking, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late Axel Jacobson and Anna Sahlberg Jacobson
Dorothy graduated high school in Viking, Minnesota and earned her Teacher’s Certificate.

She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in rural Minnesota near Townsend when she was 17 years old. She taught all 12 grades, lived with a family down the road and walked to and from school each day, even in the winter when it was freezing cold. She started the fire in the stove by herself each morning. She continued teaching and went back to college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley during summers to earn her bachelor’s degree. This is where she met her husband, Buzz Doutt.

They were married on August 21, 1954, in Pueblo, Colorado. They made their first home in Independence Missouri, then in 1964 they moved to their farm in Holden, MO where they raised their three children.

She continued teaching until she was 66 for a total of 44 years in Education. Some of the schools she taught at were Holden School District, Independence School District and Kansas City Kansas School District.

After she retired, she took up running with Buzz. They entered many 5K runs and placed several times in their age category. She continued to run into her 70s.

Dorothy also loved watching the birds and enjoyed playing the piano.

Preceding her in death are her parents; Axel and Anna, husband; William “Buzz”.

Surviving her passing are her son; William (Shari) Absalom Doutt III of Holden, MO; daughters Brenda (Bruce) McGuire of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, JoAnn (Dwight) Thies of Centerview, MO. brother; Jim Jacobson of Fort Worth, Tx, sister; Gloria Alexander of Belen, New Mexico. Grandchildren; Max Michael (Paige) Rahm, Linnea Ann (Allen) Martin, Michelle Lee Spinale, Steven Gaetano Spinale, Sean Lee (Patience) Janes, William Absalom (Ashlee) Doutt IV, Wyatt Lee Doutt.

Great Grandchildren; Anna Linnea Martin, Evelyn Sophia Martin, Robert Lee Page, Riley Scott Hall, Anthony Stephen Hall, Kamron Gaetano Spinale. Great-Great Grandchildren; Briar Rosa Lee Page, Oliver Steven Page.

Visitation was held Saturday June 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, Missouri. Interment will be at Rock Springs Cemetery 1337 NW 50th Rd, Holden, Missouri.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Campbell-Cast Funeral Home.
