Dennis S. Chesnut

Dennis S. Chesnut, 78 of Lone Jack, Missouri met his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Kindred Hospital Northland in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born Thursday, October 4, 1945 in Olney, Illinois, to the late Morton Scott “Scotty” Chesnut and the late Dorothy (Fallert) Chesnut.
Denny was a graduate of Newton Illinois High School – class of 1963.

He then earned his Bachelor’s degree at Southern Illinois University and then earned his Master’s degree at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City.

In June of 1967 he married Carolyn (Dean) Chesnut and soon after enlisted in the United States Army serving his country proudly during the Vietnam War.

Denny pastored six different churches in his 39 years of service; he loved every one of his congregations dearly. He invested time in people and truly loved just sitting and visiting with them.

Denny enjoyed working in his greenhouse and taking his harvest to the local farmers market. He adored his dog, Chester. He loved traveling and had visited all but three states. Denny was an avid sports fan always rooting for his beloved Chicago Bears, the Kansas City Chiefs and became a fan of the MU Tigers when his grandson attended school there.

Above all he cherished the time he got to spend with his family. He loved doting on his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Denny touched so many lives throughout his life and will always be remembered for his kind, generous, and loving spirit. He will be missed by all his friends and family that loved him so much.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Chesnut of the home; one son, Douglas Chesnut of Odessa, MO; three daughters, Rhonda (Michael) Wakeman of Holden, MO, Michele (Brad George) Shackelford of Warrensburg, MO and Samantha Chesnut of Lone Jack, MO; two sisters, Connie (Martin) Gorrell of Decatur, IL and Becky Fehrenbacher of Decatur, IL; seven grandchildren, Andrew Wakeman, Kristen Cox, Cole Shackelford, Morgan Shackleford, Abigale Chesnut, Elizabeth Wakeman, Rylee George; three great-grandchildren, Adlee Cox, Brysen Cox, Anabel Cox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beverly Matson; maternal grandparents, Ethel Adams and John Fallert; paternal grandparents, Harshel and Carrie Chesnut.

The family received friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Covenant Church of Holden located at 298 SW 131 Hwy, Holden, Missouri 64040.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Covenant Church of Holden.

Burial with full military honors was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Latour, MO.

Casket bearers included : Douglas Chesnut, Christopher Cox, Brad George, Cole Shackelford, Andrew Wakeman, Michael Wakeman.
Honorary casket bearers were: grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
