Joseph Mason Casto
Joseph Mason Casto, 79 of Holden, MO passed away peacefully at his daughter-in-law’s home in Grain Valley, MO on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Joe was born January 25, 1944, in Portland, ME to the late Chester and Joan (Martell) Casto.
Joe spent his childhood in Maine and moved with the family to Lee’s Summit, MO when he was 13 years old.
After graduating from Lee’s Summit High School, he joined the United States Navy in 1963. Joe was stationed on the aircraft carrier, Valley Forge during the Vietnam War, serving as a boiler engineer. He married Mona Brinkley in January of 1969 and was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in August of that year.
Joe and Mona raised two sons, Wayne and Richard in rural Holden, MO. He worked for AT&T for 30 years until retiring. After retirement he enjoyed fishing and loved to work around his house and land and loving on his dogs. The last few years he enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren and traveling to their sporting events all over the country. He especially liked watching BMX racing and often wished he would have known about it earlier in life so he could have participated.
Joe was loved and admired by many people. His family and friends will miss him greatly.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents, Chester and Joan Casto; sister, Sherri Casto; and son, Wayne Casto.
Surviving his passing are his son, Richard (Wilma Thayer) Casto of Grain Valley, MO; brother, Martin Casto of WA; and many family and friends.
The family will host a Visitation Friday, July 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, MO. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home with Full Military Honors.
Pallbearers include Travis Crain, Trampas Crain, Jonathon Casto, Joseph Casto, Ralf Garcia, and Michael Mitchell.
