Barbara Ann Baker

Barbara Ann Baker 84 of Holden, Missouri passed away peacefully at Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville, Missouri on Saturday April 29, 2023.

She was born August 8, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas to Joseph Elmer and Bessie Naomie (Wilson) Sater.

Barbara graduated from Turner High School in 1956 and married Carl Houk in February 1957. This marriage brought to life two daughters, Kimberly and Rhonda. That marriage ended in 1974 and Barbara found love again with Robert Baker in 1984.
In 1986 they moved to Kingsville, MO and made it their home until his passing in 2001. Barbara remained there until 2019 when she moved to Holden.

Barbara held several jobs throughout her life including secretary at SealRight, dental assistant at Dr. Harlan Burns office, dispatcher at Frozen Foods Express Trucking and various retail sales jobs.

When Barbara was not working, she was a Camp Fire Girl Leader and active in PTO groups. She also was a longtime caretaker for her parents until their deaths.

She enjoyed going to church and attended Fairview Baptist in Kansas City, KS, Medford Methodist in Holden, MO and Wesley Chapel in Holden, MO. Barbara liked to stay busy and had several hobbies which include painting, reading, crochet, embroidery and watching NASCAR. Barbara was a loving and caring daughter, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that will be deeply missed.

Surviving Barbara’s passing are: her daughters Kimberly Houtz Hiller, husband Jeffery of Overland Park, Kansas, and Rhonda Droege, husband John of Centerview, Missouri; brother Richard Sater, wife Ann; granddaughters Lindsey Whetstone, husband Tyler, and Haylee York, husband Jonathon; great grandchildren Leona Keating, Quinn Whetstone, Violet Whetstone and Sutton York.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert; sister Nancy (Sater) Mills; son in law Eugene Houtz. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Holden Cemetery in Holden, Missouri at 11 a.m.
