Norma Jean (Hunter) Brooks

Norma Jean (Hunter) Brooks, 93 of Holden, MO died April 19, 2013 at The Health Care Resort of Leawood.

Norma Jean was born December 9, 1929, to Emil R. Hunter and Elizabeth (Disharoon) Hunter at their family farm in Pittsville.

Norma Jean married Bobby Joe Brooks on March 31, 1949. They were soul mates and rarely spent a night apart in 71 years. They met playing baseball with the Hunter brothers at the Hunter farm.

Norma Jean was a bookkeeper at Jaccard’s Jewelers in downtown Kansas City before moving to Holden and starting a family.
She was very proud of her rose garden, winning many ribbons at the local and state fairs and enjoyed being outdoors. She was active in the Enon Baptist Church where she had been a member for over 80 years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, taught bible school and was part of the Women’s Missions Union.

She loved her family and enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV for over 30 years. They were members of the Chief Winnies RV Club of K.C. enjoying monthly meetings/trips and were snowbirds in Florida & Arizona and also Winter Texans.
Survivors are sons Harold (Karen)Brooks, K.C., MO; Terry Brooks, Holden, MO; Danny Brooks, Grain Valley, MO; daughter Peggy (Chuck) Dourty of Adkins, TX and her sister Dixie Iiams. Norma also leaves grandchildren: Brian (Jill)Dourty, Kindra Brooks, Charlene Payne, Brittany Brooks (Andrew), Danny Brooks, Jr. and Chris (Mariana) Wackerman. Great grandchildren are Gavin and Austin Dourty, Kambel and Kamryn Snelling, Maverick Payne, Emma and Olivia Williams, Madera Brooks and Alex and Dillion Wackerman.

Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Joe Brooks in 2020; infant great grandson Bradley Dourty; infant twin great granddaughters Cecelia and Marie Dourty; brothers Ralph Hunter, Rex Hunter, Dale Hunter, Robert Hunter, Russell Hunter and sisters Oryne Hancock, Sue Kendrick, Anna Marie Hunter & Mildred Hunter.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Saturday April 29th at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden. Graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Elm Spring Cemetery 570 NW 1601 Street located north of Kingsville.

Flowers are welcomed and memorials may be made to the Elm Springs Cemetery Association in care of the funeral home.
