Marylin Joyce Hurt
Marilyn Joyce Hurt 85 formerly of Holden, Missouri passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday April 19, 2023, in Kansas City, Missouri.
She was born May 19, 1937, to Ethel (Giersch) Zimmer in Newton, Kansas.
Marilyn graduated from East High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, John Sidney Hurt in Miami, Oklahoma in January of 1959. The couple raised 4 children together and made their home in Holden, Missouri.
Marilyn had a caring and nurturing heart that led her into her career in nursing. She graduated from the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing and for the next 57+ years honored her commitment to helping others. She was employed with Holden Manor for many of those years.
Marilyn was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was blessed with five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the Holden Baptist Temple and graciously served as the organist. Marilyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving Marilyn’s passing are her sons William Christopher Hurt and wife Dawn of Raymore, Missouri, stepson Terry Lynn Hurt of Holden, Missouri; daughters Marilyn Yvonne Hurt of Kansas City, Missouri, Cynthia Suzanne Carboneau and husband Bill of Lee’s Summit, step daughter Maurita Ilene McCarty of Oklahoma; brother, Robert Zimmer Jr and fiancé Anita Dyer of Holden, Missouri; sisters Karen Sue Bond of Warrensburg, Missouri, Dixie Huffman and husband Audie of Holden, Missouri, Becky Jo Browning and husband Dennis of Blue Springs, Missouri; sister in laws Judy Swearingen and Darlene Davis.
Preceding Marilyn in death are her Mother Ethel Zimmer; husband John Sidney Hurt; infant sister Roberta; son Rodney Wayne Hurt; sister Elizabeth Ann Brown; stepson Sidney Eugene Hurt; brother-in-law Jess Swearingen; great granddaughter Maliana Young; and wonderful family friend Rayne Shields.
The family held a visitation Monday April 24, 2023, at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, 407 S. Pine, Holden, MO.
A Funeral service was held Tuesday April 25, 2023, at Holden Baptist Temple 605 N. Lexington, Holden MO, with Pastor Rod Albert officiating.
Pallbearers included Joe Chisler, Bobby Zimmer III, John Carboneau, Acea Huskey, Mason Young, Aaron Hurt and Patrick Hurt. Honorary pallbearers were Mitchel Young, Bobby Zimmer Jr, Audie Huffman, Johnny Rhoades and Dennis Browning.
The family suggests memorials Children’s Mercy Hospital in Marilyn’s name.
