Gladys Suzan Brown

Gladys Suzan Brown 70, of Holden, Missouri passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Pleasant Hill Health and Rehabilitation in Pleasant Hill, MO.

Suzan, as she was so affectionately known, was born on October 25, 1952, in Jackson, Michigan to Bert and Doris (Copeland) Blackmon.

The family moved to Holden in 1960 where Suzan attended and graduated from high school, the class of 1970.
In May of 1971 she married the love of her life, Dennis Earl Brown. They made their home in Holden and raised their two sons, Brent and Kent “Bud” with love and affection.

Suzan was a room mother at the elementary school for years and thoroughly enjoyed being able to take part in both of her sons’ activities.

In the early 1980’s she joined the volunteer fire department and was one of the first women firefighters in Holden. Rumor has it she could drive the fire truck as well as anyone and could run the water pump better than most.

Suzan had a heart bigger than most and was always eager and willing to help anyone who needed it. She was an avid softball player and played for the Holden Flamingo’s for years.

As the boys got older, she took a job at UCM (formerly CMSU) as an admissions clerk. There she spent most of her time taking the new students under her wing and helping to ensure they got the love and help they needed.

Dennis and Suzan spent as much time as possible at their lake house at Lake of The Ozarks and would invite as many friends as could come with them.

When the grandkids were born, she found a new love and never missed the opportunity to spend time with each of them.
Suzan was one in a million, with a heart of gold and never a harsh word to say to anyone. She was of Christian faith and loved to attend the Holden United Methodist Church.

She will be so dearly missed by everyone but most of all her loving family. Dennis was surely waiting with open arms to spend eternity with her, they are together again.

Surviving Suzan’s passing are her two sons, Brent Brown and wife Cara of Holden, Kent “Bud” Brown of Saginaw, Texas; grandchildren, Revyn Chevelle, Chasen McCampbell, Levi Greyson, Zach Lee, Rachel Cheyenne, and Austin Kane; a chosen sister, Terry Hillsman; eight great grandchildren; and her favorite granddog, Harley Willis.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Dennis Brown; and two brothers, John and Daniel Blackmon.

The family received friends from Friday April 21, 2023, at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, located at 407 S. Pine St. Holden, Missouri.

A funeral service was held Saturday April 22, 2023, at the funeral home with Brent and Bud Brown officiating.

Interment followed in the Holden Cemetery. Casket Bearers were: Chasen, Levi, Zach, Rachel, Austin and Bud.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to The Holden United Methodist Church in Suzan’s name.
