Clarence Samuel Briscoe

Clarence Samuel Briscoe, 96, passed away March 31, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.
He was born to Charles Perry Briscoe and Clara C. Ridenhour Briscoe on September 16, 1926.

After graduating from Holden High School, Sam joined the Army in 1944. He was a WWII veteran and served in the Philippines and Japan.

On June 17, 1961, Sam married Helen Irene Monroe of Memphis, MO. They lived in Excelsior Springs, MO for several years. Sam worked for Jack Cooper Transport and also drove trucks for Coast to Coast. After his retirement, he worked as a custodlan for a school in Excelsior Springs.

One of his favorite pastimes was fishing. He loved fishing from a boat with a special friend and the friend’s son, Steven. There are many pictures of strings of fish they caught being proudly displayed.

Sam also owned and piloted a Cessna 140 plane from 1957 to 1960 and perhaps later.

Sam moved to Holden, MO in 2019 where he met special new friends and visited with some of his classmates from high school.

Upon needing additional care, he moved to Harmony Gardens and later was given the opportunity to become a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.

He loved reading his Bible, attending Bible study, and joining others for Sunday worship service in the Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene; one brother, Lavoe Briscoe; and five sisters: Bernice Briscoe, Elizabeth Eissler, Dorothy Johnson, Jeanne Taylor and June Jones.

A memorial service will be held May 6 at the First Christian Church.

Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m., memorial service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a military graveside service at Gilbert Cemetery at noon.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church of Holden or Gilbert Cemetery.
