Joyce Sue Thompson, age 78, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Cullen Funeral Home, 612 W. Foxwood Dr. Raymore, Missouri 64083. Visitation was held followed by a funeral serve that afternoon. Joyce she was then laid to rest next to her husband at Rockville Cemetery.

Joyce was born at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on June 2, 1944 to Ernest Franklin Thompson and Doris Josephine (Bailey) Thompson.

Growing up, Joyce attended elementary school in Garden City, Missouri. She enjoyed and participated in a group called Rainbow Girls in her hometown of Holden, Missouri where she also attended high school.

Meant for city living, Joyce soon relocated to Kansas City. In the summer of 1968, Joyce was joined in marriage with her late husband Arthur Thompson Jr. on June 14 in Vinita, Oklahoma. Their union was blessed with three children.

Joyce created for herself a career as an Exam Clerk for the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement in 2006. In life, Joyce, also referred to as “Aunt Suess” by her sister Judy’s family, was a member of the Pioneer Club where she would sew heart pillows and knit lap blankets and quilts for those living in nursing homes and on hospice care. Joyce also, very much enjoyed gardening as she had a love for all kinds of flowers, especially roses.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost fifty years, Arthur “Junior” Thompson Jr.; parents, Ernest and Doris Thompson; sister, Jo Ellen Jones; and mother in law, Lytle Thompson.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Donna Thompson, Debbie Miller, and Derrick Thompson; sister, Judy Wood (Denver); three grandchildren, Bailey Mahany, Cody Miller, and Kaelyn Thompson; and two great grandchildren, Delilah and Eli Mahany.
