Alan Vern Lloyd

Alan Vern Lloyd, 62, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, with his family by his side.

Alan was born Wednesday, November 11, 1959, in Washington, MO to Vern and Eleanor Lloyd.

Along with his parents and older brother, Doug, the family moved from Herman, MO to Holden when Alan was 4 years old.

His childhood was spent taking care of the family home and helping mom and dad at the grocery store.

He graduated from Holden High School in 1978 and was honored to be voted Class President.

Alan officially started working at Lloyds IGA in 1975, even though he’d been working there since he was 4. He was destined to be in management with his dad and brother.

In 2001, then Lloyds Thriftway, expanded and relocated to where the current grocery store is now. The decision to sell Lloyds Foods came in 2014 when Alan retired from the grocery business after 40+ years. He enjoyed a little time off before he went to work for County Line Auto Parts for a couple years. He then went to work for the William Bryant Elementary School in the Blue Springs School District as the custodian where the kids absolutely loved him, and the feeling was mutual.

Alan married his high school sweetheart, Cindy (Drake) Mendenhall in July of 1979. Together they had four children; Mindy, Linda, Stephanie and Jeff.

In 1996, he found love once again and married Connie Wolfe, where he gained two more daughters, Chasity and Lyndsi. He loved all his children dearly and let everyone know how proud he was of each of them.

His hobbies and interests included spending time with family, puzzles, golfing, casinos, making the best burgers and the absolute best pot of chili.

He spent most of his time on the weekends navigating to Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs and Grain Valley to spend time with his kids and grandkids. Some visits would last minutes, and some would last hours but they were all cherished moments.

Alan is survived by his mother, Eleanor Lloyd; brother, Doug (Lu) Lloyd of Holden; son, Jeff “Bo” (Kara) Lloyd of Lee’s Summit; daughters, Mindy (Nathan) Hartness of Grain Valley, MO, Stephanie (Shawn) Callahan of Blue Springs, MO, Lyndsi (Brad) Rayl of Blue Springs, and Chasity Graves of Texas; Niece, Jillian (Steven) Miranda; Nephew, Max Lloyd.

His pride and joy were his 16 grandchildren. He thought the world of each of these blessings. Dakota, Candice, Brooklyn, Avery, Brilyn, Cooper, Hailey, Gracie, Peyton, Justin, Emma, Makena, Jersey, Kate, Emery and Briana.

Proceeding Alan in death was his father, Vern Lloyd; and infant daughter, Linda Lloyd.

Pallbearers include Jeff Lloyd, Nathan Hartness, Shawn Callahan, Brad Rayl, Doug Lloyd and Max Lloyd.

Honorary Pallbearers include Avery Graves, Dakota Haak, Cooper Callahan and Justin Hartness.

The family received friends, Friday, September 30, at the Forward Community Church, 298 N. 131 Hwy, Holden, MO.
A funeral service was held Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the church with Pastor Dexter Snyder and Ben Watterson officiating.
