Dennis James McCaskill

Dennis James McCaskill, 65, of Holden MO, passed away peacefully at Kansas City Hospice on July 13, 2022.

Dennis was born July 14, 1956, to Jerry D. McCaskill and Ruby Jean (Fitzgerel) McCaskill in Kansas City, MO.

On June 4, 2022, Dennis did something he had not done for many years – – he did not limit out and finish his trout fishing trip at the Roaring River.

He only caught 2 trout that morning and then the stroke happened, and our lives changed forever.

We do not realize as we walk through life how many people we connect with. Dennis or “Dennie” as most people know him by, lived most of his life in Holden, MO.

He graduated from Holden High School in 1974. In 1979 he married the love of his life, Paula Whelchel, on April 12.

He paid the bills by working for Stahl Specialty in Kingsville, MO as a foundry dye operator for more than 28 years.

His heart was in baseball, from coaching boys to umpiring and then to coaching his own daughters when they started playing.

He loved to follow the Holden Eagles sports teams, filming for football and basketball.

Often times the coaches would have to mute the video so the kids could not hear coach Dennis’ advice!

He was an avid gardener, fisherman and deer hunter that liked to stay busy.

Before fully retiring he was a custodian for the Holden School District.

Dennis served the Holden Community on the town Recreation Board, the Police Merit Board and most recently the Holden Cemetery Board.

He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church.

He was a man who loved his community and loved to be a part of it.

Dennis’ grandchildren were an important part of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to watch them do what they love, from sports and cheerleading to dirt bikes, he was there rooting them on.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His parents preceded him in death.

Dennis is survived by his wonderful wife of 43 years, Paula McCaskill; 2 daughters, Dee Quinn (Reynolds) of Kingsville, MO; Jaymie Swearingen (Shawn) of Holden, MO; 4 grandchildren, Jacob Quinn, Lauren Newsome, Ella Swearingen and Wyatt Swearingen.

Pallbearers: Dale Jasper, Pat Gard, Shawn Swearingen, Kyle Reed, Reynolds Quinn and Chris Schulz.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bob Banes, Jim Carlyle, Clark Sands and Dennis Raymond.

The family will hosted a visitation on Monday evening July 18, 2022, at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home in Holden, MO.

A graveside service was held Tuesday Morning July 19, 2022, at the Holden Cemetery with Josh Christy officiating.

In Lieu of Flowers memorial, contributions to the Holden First Baptist Church.
