Sandra L. (Swindell) Wheeler

Sandy L. Wheeler passed away at home Sunday, May 8, 2022. Sandy graduated from Smithville High School and Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg.

She worked as an RN with patient care in ER, ICU, gerontology and home health care for 40 years in Kansas City and Harrisonville, MO.

She enjoyed travel with her husband, Ken, and daughter, Kristi.

She was the navigator on car trips and could not pronounce “Gracias” or “Grazi.” It always came out “Grassy-ass.”

We always had lots of fun wherever we were at the time.

Sandy loved animals. She cared for a wide variety of creatures on the farm. Sandy was especially passionate about dogs. She told me once, “you can’t just have one basset hound, they are like chips!” Then she adopted three Basset Hounds to join her two Bassets and one Great Pyrenes at home.

Preceded in death by Everett Swindell, father, of Smithville MO. Survivors include Ken Wheeler, husband; Kristi Wheeler, daughter; Jeanne (Swindell) Justus, mother; Ken Swindell, brother; and Robert Swindell, brother; multiple nieces and nephews. She is missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Missouri Kidney Program; National Kidney Foundation; Daphneyland Basset Rescue (CA) or Wayside Waifs in Kansas City.
