MELVIN WILLIAM POPE, JR.
Melvin William Pope, Jr., 78, of Holden, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 in Warrensburg.
Melvin was born September 23, 1943 in Kansas City, the son of Melvin W. Pope, Sr. and Goldie Irene (McConville) Pope.
He was raised in Holden, having graduated from Holden High School.
After high school, he went to work for Bendix Corporation for several years.
Melvin was united in marriage to Helen L. Earl on September 28, 1962 in Holden.
He owned and operated Kingsville Package Store and later worked in the meat department at Holden A.F. Supermarket.
More recently, Melvin was a crop sprayer with several local CO-OPS.
He was an avid football fan, especially the Chiefs.
His hobbies also included hunting and fishing.
In years past, Melvin was a youth baseball and softball coach.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Garza-Gonzalez and husband, Reon of Warrensburg, MO; son, Todd Pope and companion, Lori Cast Dodson of Chilhowee, MO; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Gonzalez and fiancé, Joshua Collins of Warrensburg, MO; and sister-in-law, Wanda Gordon and husband, Bland of Lee’s Summit, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Helen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden, with Rev. John McRoy of Kingsville Baptist Church officiating.
The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the chapel.
