Reported Blaze At Stahls; JCFPD #2 Responds
On Sunday, February 6, at approximately 7:44 p.m., firefighters from Johnson County Fire Protection District #2 responded to a report of a structure fire at Stahl Specialty Co., located in Kingsville. Stations 1, 3 and 5 of JCFPD #2 responded and upon arrival, found heavy smoke billowing from a 100×300-ft. commercial structure within the Stahl complex. Emergency personnel learned that all employees had escaped the building that was involved and there were no civilian injuries.
After investigation, firefighters determined the blaze was located in the floor trenches in the area of the melting furnace.
Firefighters set up an interior attack and entered the building, battling the heavy smoke.
JCFPD #2 Chief David Miller reports that the fire was indeed located in the floor trenches and began when aluminum from the furnace was spilled, igniting the blaze.
