MICHAEL D. “MYKEL” MINNICK, JR.
Michael D. “Mykel” Minnick, Jr., 48, of Kansas City, died Friday, November 26, 2021, at Adventhealth of Shawnee Mission, KS.
Mykel was born on September 20, 1973, in Richmond, the son of and Michael D. Minnick, Sr. and Brenda Hilton.
Mykel was raised and educated in Richmond.
He later attended the Fashion Institute in Miami, FL. Everything about Mykel was creativity.
Mykel was a dreamer through and through.
He liked learning new things, traveling to new places, listening to music, gardening, and tending to flowers. Mykel loved fashion, art and music.
He also volunteered at HOPE Thrift Center in Holden.
He was a just and kind person, very generous, compassionate, and a gentle soul who loved everyone.
Mykel made friends very easily. He went on a men’s retreat twice a year in the Poconos outside of New York City.
Mykel loved taking day trips and traveling to U.S. cities such as Chicago, New York City and San Francisco.
He also traveled in Europe to France, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.
Mykel was involved in gay pride in the Kansas City area.
Survivors include his father, Michael D. Minnick, Sr., of Richmond; mother, Brenda Hilton of Holden; three uncles, Dale (Judy) Minnick, David Minnick, and Steve (Stephanie) Minnick, all of Richmond; and two aunts, Donna (Mike) Rimmer of Sunrise Beach and Sherry Lisby of Eureka, CA.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earnest and Donna “Sally” Minnick;, and maternal grandparents, Marion Lisby and Shirley Lisby; and aunt, Menita Hall.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the HOPE Thrift Center.

A Celebration of Life was held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
