Celebrate Christmas in the Park Holden-Style

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in your hometown!

Many volunteers have worked hard to decorate the downtown Dillon-Mickey Memorial Park, as well as the Holden City Park.

The Holden Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring Christmas in the Park again this year, at the city park.

They are hosting a kick-off celebration on Saturday, December 11, from 5-7 p.m.

There will be refreshments, and a Christmas craft for the kiddos.

That jolly old elf, Santa Claus, will be on hand to visit with families and hear children’s Christmas wishes.

Parents – bring your cameras and catch the wonder in your child’s eyes as they meet face to face with Ole Saint Nick!

The Holden PTO is partnering with Parks & Rec to bring Santa to town.

He will be at the Boy Scouts/Coon Hunters building for the evening.

Other holiday decorations are all around town this year.

There is a Magic Tree in front of city hall.

Feel free to go and take advantage of the photo opportunity with family and friends.

Organizers wish to thank all who helped string the thousands of lights on the Magic Tree and put up the downtown park decorations.

They include Celeste Malcolm, Bobby and Lynette Zimmer and Cody, Susan Strate, Alicia Edwards, Velta Edwards and David and Naomi Chastain. Parks & Rec President David Chastain said, “The last couple of days we have worked with some amazing people trying to bring cheer to the community – and uplift spirits.” He added, “If you haven’t been to Clay Street yet, there is a very cheerful atmosphere with all the lights for adults and children to enjoy, set up by Guy Barwick.”

David, Bobby and Lynette are finishing up with the Magic Tree by city hall – by stringing thousands of lights to display in and around the little tree.

It is made possible by a lot of donations.

Donations were given by Joe and Cindy Campbell, Shannon and Larry Andes, Naomi and David Chastain and Bobby and Lynette Zimmer and son Cole.

David repaired broken strands of lights on the south and east sides caused by an unknown incident, as the park group worked very hard stringing lights all around the ballfield last week.

Park Board members and others volunteered to decorate the city park with all kinds of wonderful Christmas displays.

Volunteers included David and Naomi Chastain, Mike, Rhonda and Elizabeth Wakeman, Maaike VanZomeren, David Anstine, Andrew Wakeman, Guy Barwick and Katey Summer.

In the downtown shopping district, longtime Holden businessman Francis Brillhart is providing Christmas music as shoppers go on their merry way!

Many people have given of their time and talents so the Holden community can enjoy a festive holiday and get into the Christmas Spirit!

Don’t miss seeing all of the lights at the city park, downtown park and Magic Tree!

Make plans to attend the Christmas in the Park kick-off party and celebrate the season with your family, friends and neighbors!
