BPW Discusses Maintenance Issues at City Lake

City lake maintenance and upkeep were discussed by the Board of Public Works (BPW) at its regular October 5 meeting. Water Superintendent Tony Lerda voiced continued concerns at the lack of maintenance, specifically on the dam and in the trees and scrub taking over the once grassy fields. The regular Department of Natural Resources (DNR) inspection was discussed and there are concerns that the dam may not pass the inspection. Lerda said the city, who is responsible for some of the lake maintenance, had attempted to burn off some of the trees and vegetation on the dam, but it was too green. “The small trees and shrubs need to be physically removed,” Lerda commented. Lerda said the bigger issue is the deterioration that is happening as trees and scrub are being allowed to take over the acres and acres of the once grassy fields.
