MARGARET ELLEN THOMASON

Margaret Ellen Thomason, 87, of Holden, Missouri, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at St. Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit.

Margaret Ellen was born September 13, 1933 in Montrose, Missouri, the fifth child of Anthony Henry “Doc” Daldrup and Viola Ann (Richter) Daldrup.

Her family moved to Holden while Margaret Ellen was in grade school.

She graduated from Holden High, Class of ’53.

She was united in marriage to Herby Thomason on January 13, 1957 in Illinois.

The couple made their home near Holden. Margaret Ellen was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, where she was a longtime member of the Altar Society.

She was a den mother with the local Boy Scouts at one time.

She belonged to a CB Radio Club in the ’70s and she was also a member of the Holden Gun Club, where she garnered several awards.

Margaret Ellen raised and released a lot of wild animals throughout the years.

Her hobbies included quilting, oil painting, gardening, crafts and cooking, especially for the holidays.

She also enjoyed following her husband’s and son’s races throughout the years and more recently, showing her rotisserie restored ’55 Chevrolet Bel Air at car shows.

Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 65 years, Herb; two daughters, Cynthia Freeman of Kingsville, MO and Shelley Phenix (Jerry) of Holden, MO; two sons, Sam Thomason (Jean) of Holden, MO and Mark Thomason (Delight) of Holden, MO; sister, Audria Martin of Blue Springs, MO; 11 grandchildren, Shawn Godinez (Stephanie) of Belton, MO; Christie Thomason (Brian Beebe) of Kingsville, MO; John Thomason of Holden, MO; Charles “Bobby” Bradley (Jacque) of Bates City, MO; Thomas Bradley (Lily) of Belton, MO; Dustin Pellett (Francoise) of France; Kristy Van Lew (Johnny Fields) of Holden, MO; Steven Phenix (Andrea McMechan) of Chilhowee, MO; Tyler Bruns (Beccah) of Holden, MO; Eric Thomason (Bailey) of Holden, MO; and Riley Thomason (Ethan Burton) of Holden, MO; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosalia Hilke; and two brothers, Gene Daldrup and James Daldrup.

A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden.
