Another Street Fair in the Books; Hot Time In The Old Town For Sure

Well, once again, our little town celebrated its heritage as we honored our roots at the 138th annual Street Fair, held last weekend.

One of the main story lines of the 2021 Street Fair was the heat!

Temperatures were in the upper 90s, with heat indexes nearing 110 degrees F. But, some Holden residents braved the blazing temperatures to take in the Fair, just as our ancestors have been doing for well over a century.

The crowds were down this year, partly due to the heat, and partly because of the COVID pandemic, which is still raging out of control, with the new highly contagious delta variant.

But the three-day celebration went on as planned, much to the delight of Holden residents.

The queen and king shows kicked off the festivities last Thursday evening, followed by carnival fun and entertainment, and those attending didn’t miss out on that delectable Fair food!

Elaina Young was crowned as the 2021 Miss Holden Queen, and she reigned over the festivities at this year’s Fair.

There were the usual contests at the Community Activity Center, the children’s games, 5K, dog show, car show, baby show, and the grand finale – the parade, among many other exciting events and contests.

Hard-core cornhole players showed up in full force at the Stub Roberts Memorial fields, north of downtown.

There was some stiff competition, as bag throwers put their best foot forward amid stifling temperatures!

Saturday also included the baby show, held at the CAC, and they weren’t lacking for participants, as this week’s Image clearly shows!

Volunteers always make our annual celebration a reality with all their hard work!

The Image would like to give a shout out to all those who volunteered their time for numerous duties, so we could all enjoy our annual tradition.

So, it’s over for another year… it’s bittersweet to all of us who call Holden home.

We love getting together and celebrating our small town agricultural history, and so we will continue the tradition, just as so many who came before us have done.

So, until next year, let’s remember the friendships renewed, the new acquaintances we’ve made, and the precious memories we will cherish from the 2021 Holden Street Fair!
