GAREY RAYMOND VANHOOSER

Garey Raymond VanHooser of Holden, Missouri, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 4, 2021.

Garey was born in Long Beach, California on October 19, 1938. He was the son of Andrew VanHooser and Annie (Johnson) VanHooser.

Garey attended the Bellflower High School in Bellflower, CA. Becoming a member of the United States Navy in October of 1956, and serving until September of 1959.

Garey married his wife, Frieda Gilley on July 15, 1960 in Palos Verdes, CA. He was employed as a shipbuilder in San Pedro, CA, retiring after 32 years. Garey and Frieda moved to Pleasant Hill, MO in 1997, later making their home in Holden, MO in 2016. Garey was a member of Forward Community Church in Holden, MO.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frieda VanHooser of Holden, MO; one son, Andy VanHooser and wife, Becky of Holden, MO; two daughters, Vanessa Root and husband, Scott of Grain Valley, MO, and Beverly Cope of Blue Springs, MO; one sister, Charolotte Bonnewitz of Buena Park, CA; eight grandchildren, Teresa, Steven and wife Jill, Jessica, Victoria, Anthonee, Teyler, Samantha and Alexandria; and two great-grandchildren, Nora and Isla.

Garey was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Annie VanHooser; one brother, Burton VanHooser; six sisters, Adell, Buella, Irene, Gladys, Cora and Anna.

A Celebration of Life ending with Military Honors will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Forward Community Church, (298 MO-131, Holden, MO) with Pastor Dexter Snyder officiating.

The family respectfully requests that those who attend please wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Veterans Administration.
