Lady Eagle sophomore wrestler Aubree Castaneda led the Holden girls wrestling team to a 30-6 win over the visiting Lady Bears team during Holden’s Matwarming meet last Thursday, December 3.
Castaneda recorded a win by pinfall over Lady Bear Josie Johnston in the 174-pound match.
Lady Eagles Charlie Gregg at 127 pounds, Tasia Lee at 143 pounds, Faith Brown at 159 pounds, and Sam VanHooser at 235 pounds all took wins by forfeit.
Butler scored its six points on a win by forfeit.
“I was really glad to see Aubree putting all those things to use that we’ve worked on in practice,” said coach Matt Hertzog.
“It’s just a good feeling to see it pay off for her.
It was pretty impressive. I’m glad she got the win tonight.”
Coach Hertzog was the lone coach on the sidelines for Holden after head coach John Jones, and assistant coaches Ron Franklin and Tyler Jolly were forced to sit out from the meet due to a last minute Covid-19 quarantine order that occurred late in the school day on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles team of Castaneda, Gregg, Lee, Brown, and VanHooser received recognition from coach Hertzog with the season now under way with the Lady Eagles team growing from one member (Lee) last season to five team members this season.
“I’m really happy to have all these kids out,” said coach Hertzog.
“I’m really looking forward to us improving as a team moving forward together.”
The Lady Eagles team moves forward on the season this Friday and Saturday, December 11-12, as the team competes at the Belton Tournament.
Start time on Friday is 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, tournament matches begin at 9:30 a.m.
