Bobby Joe Brooks, 93, of Holden, MO, passed away peacefully November 18, 2020 at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO, due to COVID.

He was born October 21, 1927 to Fred E. Brooks, Sr. and Effie Mae (Underwood) Brooks at their farm in Pittsville.

Bobby grew up helping out on his family farm. He went on to proudly served in WWII on the Gunston Hall, a U.S. Navy destroyer escort.

Upon returning from the Navy, he married Norma Jean (Hunter) on March 31,1949 and started a family on the Brooks farm. They were married for 71 years.

He used his VA benefits to obtain his pilot’s license and owned his own plane, a Luscombe. He flew from the dirt runway behind his house. He worked for more than 35 years at Bendix Corporation, where he was a Quality Control supervisor and a charter member of the local union.

After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV for more than 30 years. They spent winters in Florida, Texas and Arizona, traveling with their friends from the Chief Winnies RV Club out of Kansas City. They were active members, attending monthly campouts and events.

He was someone who could fix anything and spent hours in his garage and at his brother’s garage fixing cars and other household items.

He never met a stranger and would offer help to anyone in need.

Bobby was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. His family, friends, and his RV family were the top priorities in his life.
