MYRTLE “JUDY” GERLEAN BRATTEN 1936-2020

Judy Bratten, better known as “Nana,” 83, of Holden, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020, at her home.

Judy was born on October 19, 1936 in Monette, Arkansas, the daughter of Jess Franklin Read and Stacy Ann (Beard) Read.

Judy grew up on the family cotton and soybean farm with five other siblings.

Family was most important to Judy. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and most recently a great-great-grandmother.

Judy greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She loved gardening, quilting and sewing, crocheting, watching old westerns, reading, text messaging her family, and more than anything, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals teams.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Mitchem of Holden; three granddaughters, Kate Mitchem of Overland Park, KS, Stacy (Rob Harp) of Holden, MO and Angela (Jason Harms) of Kansas City, MO; her son, Kenneth Bratten of Bonne Terre, MO; granddaughter Jamie of Warrensburg, MO and grandson Josh of Wichita, KS; her son, Keith Bratten of Harrisonville, MO; granddaughter, April Bratten of Columbus, KS; eight great-grandchildren, Elicia, Malorie, Kerstyn, Ashanta, Dravin, Noah, Kaylynne, and Zane; and one great-great-grandchild, Noah Marie.

She also is survived by her sister, Berneace Ballieu of Grandview, MO; niece, Tammy (Greg Rose); nephew, Tom Cook; two great-nieces, Jessica (Ryan Wade) and Mandy (James Cunningham); great-nephew, Jeremy Hensley; two great-great-nieces, Lily and Trinity; seven great-great-nephews, Payton, Zach, Kyle, Jeremy Jr, Sean, Corey and Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess Franklin and Stacy Ann Read; three brothers, Willard, Clarence and Earl Read; sister, Ethel Justus; and granddaughter, Amy Bratten.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at noon at First Baptist Church, 601 S Market St., Holden, Missouri, with Pastor Darrell Woods officiating.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the First Baptist Church of Holden.
