Dorothy F. Humphries Pine of Independence, MO passed away at Cedarhurst Retirement Home on May 7, 2026, at age 90.
Services included a visitation on May 19 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Speaks Chapel on 39th Street Independence, MO.
Graveside services were set for May 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holden Cemetery Holden MO.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Holden Cemetery; Stella Smith Trea 102 East 2nd St Holden MO 64040.
Dorothy Faye Humphries was born to Frances M. and Alfred Lee Humphries on July 10, 1935, in Chilhowee, MO.
She moved to Holden in 1939 and attended Holden School system all 12 years graduating with the class of 1953. She excelled in all the business classes.
Her first full-time position was as a secretary at the new Holden Hospital opening in the spring of 1953 and it was there where she met her future husband, Robert W. Pine. She later moved to Independence in 1959 and they were married November 28, 1959.
In the years of Dorothy living in Holden, she was a member since childhood of the Holden Methodist Church. She was their pianist and accompanied many soloist for local funerals.
Upon moving to Independence in 1959, she worked for Mr. Hutchinson and later Mr. Bland CPAs.
In 1962 Mickey Cosentino, of the Price Chopper store chain, asked Dorothy to take over the accounting practice and payroll of their 13 stores owned by the Cosentino family.
Dorothy started her own business in her basement and employed additional girls to help. She worked with the Cosentino family until retirement in 1995, a total of 33 years.
She was a long-time member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Independence and a volunteer for many years making many friends. One person she was partial to was Amber Dennis, their secretary, who became a long-time friend for life.
Dorothy was a doer and loved to help out but not so much accepting of help in return.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Pine, her mother, Frances Humphries, and grandmother Edith Best, her sister Evelyn Bryant and husband David, and infant sister Mary Frances Humphries.
She is survived by one niece, Patsy Roberts of Holden, MO. Also very dear and special to her were the friends and neighbors living in the same neighborhood for 53 years. A special thanks has been extended to Dr. Ryan Huyser and Cedarhurst staff and Luminos Hospice staff for their professional care.
