The Kingsville Lady Tigers softball team recorded a home win over Archie Wednesday, Mar. 25 by the final score of 21-11.

The Lady Tigers took control of the game by plating 18 runs versus four from the Whirlwinds through the first four innings of the run-rule shortened contest that ended after six innings of play.

The win offset a 4-2 home loss to Green Ridge earlier in the week, and followed a 10-7 road win against Northwest (Hughesville) on Tuesday.

“I’m very proud of this group of girls,” said Kingsville softball head coach Kaydee Sisk. “They’ve been working very hard. We’ve only had a few days outside with the weather before we started getting these games in, and it’s really starting to show the talent that these girls have and the work ethic that they have. They’re starting to really put the ball in play, and make the plays in the field. I’m really proud of them.”

After Lady Tiger freshman starting pitcher Kinsey Scrutchfield held Archie off the bases in the top of the first inning, Kingsville put up three runs in the bottom of the first.
Lady Tiger freshman Jovie Scrutchfield drew a walk to open Kingsville’s side of the first, and would score on a ground out by shortstop Kylie Stout for Kingsville’s first run of the game. Third baseman Brooklin Dykzeul and Kinsey Scrutchfield both scored on a passed balls before the inning ended with the bases loaded.

Archie answered with two runs in the top of the second.

The Lady Tigers responded with their biggest scoring inning of the game to plate seven runs in the bottom of the second.

In the middle of the second-inning scoring spree, Lady Tiger freshman second baseman Addie Bush circled the bases for a two-RBI inside-the-park home run that pushed Stout across the plate ahead of Bush’s sliding score.

Archie put one run on the board in each the third inning and the fourth inning before producing seven runs in the fifth.

The score remained 18-11 through a scoreless bottom of the fifth for Kingsville, and a scoreless top of the sixth for Archie.

The Lady Tigers ended the game by run-rule by plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Kinsey Scrutchfield, a ground out by Jenna Murkin that pushed Scrutchfield across the plate, and a wild pitch that allowed Bush to slide into home plate for the final run of the game.

“This game was definitely our bats to the ball,” said coach Sisk. “Beginning of the week, it was a little bit harder for us to get the ball in play, and today, they really proved that we can battle in the box.

“Defense was great,” added coach Sisk. “Kinsey, Jenna both in there for pitching. Addie Bush with the double play at second. That’s her second time this year of already getting a double play in the first four games of the season. And then, just communication overall, the girls are really talking and making sure that they know where they’re going with the ball.
“Base running is definitely fun, watching them run the bases,” continued coach Sisk. “Addie had the inside-the-park home run, then we had a bunch of doubles and triples, and the girls running the bases, they’re stealing left and right, paying attention, knowing where they’re going, and being aggressive on the bags, for sure.”

Kingsville totaled 17 hits in the game versus 15 from Archie.

At the plate for Kinsgville, Brooklin Dykzeul had 3 hits and 2 RBIs, Stout had 3 hits and 1 RBI, Jovie Scrutchfield had 2 hits and 3 RBIs, Bush and Murkin each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Lucy Taylor had 2 hits and 1 RBI, Kinsey Scrutchfield had 1 hit and 2 RBIs, Emma Wright and Brooke Dykzeul each had 1 hit and 1 RBI. The Lady Tigers totaled 16 stolen bases as a team.
