Melvin Lee Bowman

Melvin Lee Bowman, 85, of Pinehurst, passed away Jan. 26, 2024 at home after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Henrietta, MO, on November 5, 1938, to Albert & Florence Bowman.
Mel described himself as a “poor farm boy” who ended up traveling the world and all 50 states. He had a long, successful career with Continental Airlines and the Cargo Development Group. Ultimately, he owned his own Team Air Express business in Charlotte, NC, where he and his wife, Carol, worked side by side in the business until their retirement to Pinehurst in 2004.
During his career, he and Carol lived in many places, including Guam & Hawaii, where they enjoyed playing golf, the beaches, and the amazing sunsets.
Mel was a 3rd degree Master Mason of the Jewel Masonic Lodge in Pleasant Hill, MO. He also obtained his 32-degree Scottish Rite and was a proud member of the Oasis Shrine of the Temple in Charlotte, NC.
He enjoyed life and loved cooking for family and friends, golfing with Carol and his buddies, traveling, and bringing people together.
He was predeceased by his parents and only brother, Marvin Glen Bowman.
Mel is survived by his loving wife, Carol of 54 years; daughter, Cindy Sisson (Larry); granddaughters, Dena Ford (Chris), Lisa Hook (Jacob); great-grandchildren Claire and Cooper Ford; nephews, Stephen Raiteri, Kenneth Raiteri (Marianne Engle), Matthew Raiteri (Felice); and niece, Regina Langman (Jim) and many dear friends.
Per Mel’s request, there will not be a service. In honor of Mel, donations may be made to the Carolina Bird Club (www.carolinabirdclub.org).
