Celebrate Holden At Community Day Saturday
A special day to celebrate Holden and all the wonderful people living here will be held this weekend!
A brand new Community Day event will be held this Saturday, August 29, and is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
Community Day will be a full day of exciting competitions, contests, games, vendor booths and entertainment.
The Community Day is being held in lieu of the Holden Street Fair. The Fair had to be cancelled this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and safety concerns for citizens.
The fun will actually start the night before the 29th. On Friday, August 28 (tomorrow night), a Cornhole Tournament will be held at the HSA ballfield at 7 p.m.
Kicking off Saturday, August 29, will be the 5-K Run. Registration is from 6 until 6:45 a.m. at Holden City Hall, 3rd and Main Streets. The 5-K Run gets underway at 7 a.m.
Activities – dubbed “Party in the Parking Lot” will take place in the city parking lot across from the Community Activity Center (CAC).
Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs so you can watch the events in comfort.
Opening at 9 a.m. and running all day until 9 p.m., will be a variety of vendor booths set up throughout the CAC parking lot.
At 10 a.m., is the Kids Games, for children of all ages, between 1st and 2nd St., on Main St.
The fun continues with participants showing off “man’s best friend,” at the Dog Show.
The Dog Show begins at 11 a.m. on Market St. in front of the CAC, and is sponsored by Paws and Memaws.
Holden Fire & Rescue is sponsoring a Hot Dog Eating Contest. It is hosted by Steve and Rebecca King and all proceeds go to the Holden Fire Dept.
Entry fees are as follows: youth, ages 12 and under/$10; teens, ages 13-17/$12.50; and adults, 18 and over/$15.

From 1 to 5 p.m. – is the Youth Cornhole Tournament, across from the CAC.
A “Git Up Challenge” will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., across from the CAC. Enter your team and win $200!

Closing out Holden’s Community Day will be entertainment from a live band in the parking lot across from the CAC.
The Over the Mountain Band will provide first rate entertainment for all ages, from 7-9 p.m.
