Holden Community Day Planned In Lieu Of Street Fair
The Holden Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a brand new Community Day event, to be held Saturday, August 29.
The all-day affair will include events, games and entertainment for all ages. The Community Day was planned in lieu of the Holden Street Fair.
The Fair had to be cancelled this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and safety concerns for citizens.
The fun will actually start the night before the 29th. On Friday, August 28, a cornhole tournament will be held at the HSA ballfield at 7 p.m.
The popular sport is sure to draw a large crowd of participants and spectators, so get your team together now!
Kicking off Saturday, August 28, will be the 5-K Run. Registration begins at 6 a.m. and continues until 6:45 a.m. at Holden City Hall, 3rd and Main Streets. The 5-K Run gets underway at 7 a.m.
Activities, dubbed “Party in the Parking Lot” will take place in the city parking lot across from the Community Activity Center (CAC).
Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs so you can watch the events in comfort.
Opening at 9 a.m. and running all day until 9 p.m., will be a variety of vendor booths set up throughout the parking lot.
Beginning at 10 a.m., there will be kids games, to be held on Main St., near 2nd Street. Bring the kiddos out for some fun games and friendly competition.
The fun continues with participants showing off “man’s best friend,” in a dog show.
The dog show begins at 11 a.m. on Market St. in front of the CAC, and is sponsored by Paws and Memaws.
From 1 to 5 p.m. – is the youth cornhole tournament across from the CAC. See related story for more details.
A “Git Up Challenge” will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., across from the CAC. Enter your team and win $200!
The prize money is sponsored by F&C Bank. For questions and more details, contact Lois Cheatham at 732-3522.
Capping off the day of fun will be the entertainment of a live band from 7 to 9 p.m. Over the Mountain Band will perform across from the CAC. See related band bio story.
To register for any of the events at Community Day, go to the Chamber’s website at www.holdenchamber.com, and look under the Street Fair information tab.
If you do not have internet access, paper entry forms will be made available beginning August 17 at the following locations: F&C Bank, Central Bank, Yoss Bros. and Country Creations.
The entry forms will indicate the registration deadlines for each event.
Make plans to attend Holden’s first Community Day and gather with family and friends to celebrate our hometown!
Chamber reminder – All persons attending will be required to comply with any and all regulations and restrictions in effect at that time by Johnson County Community Health Services.
These will include but are not limited to physical distancing and face masks. The Holden Chamber of Commerce and its volunteers encourage you not to attend if you feel you are at risk.
Those attending are responsible for their own behavior and at their own risk! If you are not feeling well or have had any exposure to COVID-19, stay home and do not attend this or other events.
