Review Of Past Activities, A Look At Future Endeavors Highlight Council Meeting

A look back at the activities and accomplishments of the Holden City Council during 2025 and a preview of things to come highlighted the body’s monthly meeting Thursday, Jan. 12.

2025 Review
Mayor Ray Briscoe began the business part of the meeting by updating the council with recent activities and thanking all who filed the election in April.

He then asked for volunteers from the community and/or the city council for two different committees: The Spirit Coalition (contact Al West); and the TAC (contact Charlie Cavanaugh, the County Commissioner).

Following, he reviewed the highlights of 2025: GO Bond efforts including backup power for City Hall, the Fire Department and the Police Department; renovation & cleanout of the storm shelter; City Hall Foundation work; new energy efficient windows at City Hall; the Police Department Renovation; paint for the small conference room; obtaining the Blue Shield grant; improved radio communication system with the county; purchase of a finish mower, culvert jetter and a Vactron for leaf pickup and ditch/culvert maintenance; multiple recreational events such as the fireworks display and Kite Festival.

Police Department
Chief David Mayhew gave his report with a highlight being the new officers have all completed their field training, and are fully active.

Fire Department
Fire Chief Mike Wakeman shared his year-end report stating the average response time for fire calls in 2025 was 6:51 minutes. He said this is above average for a volunteer fire department and commended his firefighters. He added the fire…
