City’s Go Bond Measure Squeaks By, School’s K.I.T.S. Narrowly Misses Once Again

Last week’s Aug. 6 elections proved to be a mixed bag in Holden as the City’s Go Bond narrowly passed, while the Holden R-III School District’s K.I.T.S question once again was narrowly turned down by the voters.

The Go Bond, which had failed by the slimmest of margins in the April election, this time passed in an equally close vote. While the vote totals, 243 YES – 172 NO, (58.55% YES) showed a significant preference for the question, a 4/7th (or 57.14%) was required for passage. In terms of required percentages, it passed by 1.4%).

Nonetheless, the Public Safety Improvement measure is now in the books and the City can proceed with its priorities, including: the replacement/repair of emergency equipment, repair and renovation of police department operation facilities and addressing the building needs of the City’s emergency shelter and operations center, among others.

For the Holden R-III School District, the K.I.T.S. (Keep It The Same) vote was equally close, but with a different outcome.
